The world’s second largest coastal lagoon can be found in Odisha. The brackish water lagoon is an interesting ecosystem of birds not only of the kinds but also of species flying thousand miles from Russia, Mongolia, Central and southeast Asia, Caspian Sea etc. The largest wintering ground of Indian Subcontinent becomes a bird paradise during the winters. Nalbana Island is in the core area which gets covered with weeds and becomes the dinning for the birds. Mangalajodi is another such wetland in Chillika whose fish ecosystem attracts the bird predators in large numbers. The deity of this lagoon Godess Kalijai resides on the top of another Island called the KALIJAI ISLAND named on two sisters KALI and JAI.
One can reserve a boat from the village Satapada to visit the Dolphins point. Irrawaddy, Bottlenose dolphins can be found here. On the southern end of Chillika is the Rambha Bay where some other island are present like the Becon Island, the Breakfast island, the Honeymoon island.
