Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha state of India. It is the largest city of Odisha after Cuttack. This has been in existence since 3000 years. Today this city is the economic center and also known as smartest cities of Odisha. Bhubaneswar is known for its temples and hence it is also called as 'Temple Of India'. This city has around 600 temples. These temples give a glimpse of its rich 3000 year old heritage. The city has forests all around it and hence it is rated as the most cleanest and green city after Chandigarh.
Places to visit in Bhubaneswar:
Lingaraj Temple:
This is a temple devoted to Hindu god "Shiva". This was built around in 10th or 11th century. This temple has been described as "the truest fusion of dream and reality". This temple has 55 meter vimana (a structure resembling aircrafts) and has a number of carvings which cover its surface. This temple is the pilgrimage place for Hindus all over the world. It is considered auspicious to visit this temple before visiting Jagannath Temple for 'Rath Yatra'.
Khandagiri & Udayagiri:
These are the twin towns which are located about 8 km. from Bhubaneswar. These are an important Jain Heritage. These caves were used as a monastery which serves tired travelers. These caves have some very important artifacts that belonged to King Kharavela.
Dhauli Giri:
This is town where the war of Kalinga was fought. The King Asoka installed several Mauryan sculptures and carvings. These sculptures spread the message of Non Violence (Ahimsa) and brotherhood. These edicts are preserved very well.
